Rep. Evans Chairs the Joint Cancer Caucus

[Springfield, IL](January 2, 2018) — Illinois State Representative Marcus C. Evans, Jr. joined the collaborative efforts of beginning a Cancer Caucus within the General Assembly. Rep. Evans has been named the chair of the caucus, which is a nonpartisan legislators’ (State Senators and State Representatives) caucus designed to help them stay updated on various cancer issues and developments.

As a cancer survivor, Rep. Evans is passionate and dedicated to the prevention, care and maintenance support for individuals who suffer and/or survived a bout with cancer. This caucus will be the General Assembly’s forum on cancer to leverage research, education and prevention in order to enact public policies to increase treatment and quality of life outcomes for cancer patients and survivors.

According to Rep. Evans, “The mission of the Illinois Cancer Caucus is to collaboratively discuss research, treatment, education, funding streams and prevention methods in order to reduce the number of cancer diagnoses and improve outcomes for cancer patients, survivors and families in Illinois.”

At the start of the New Year, the cancer caucus held their first reception and tour of Center for Cancer and Specialty Care at Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center facility. Rep. Evans addressed the attendees with an opening statement, “all communities are affected by cancer in some way and all legislators of Illinois care.”
