Job Purpose

The Onboard Human Resources Coordinator (HRC) is the onboard HR resources for crew and serves as liaison to the corporate HR department on all matters with a HUGE focus on employee relations.

The HRC shall possess strong verbal and written communication skills, have the ability to shift gears at a moment's notice and enjoy the challenges of both ongoing “change” and helping to build and maintain a great organization of talented individuals.

This position may be assigned to work aboard any vessel and is not guaranteed any assignment to any specific vessel.

Duties & Responsibilities

Must interact with all employees and guests in a professional and friendly manner; maintain regular “office hours” for employee needs.

Serves as HR advisor and consultant to management team onboard vessel.

Liaise with Corporate HR team on any HR needs or assistance required onboard.

Work with Microsoft Office, MXP and POS and PMS systems as needed.

Responsible for booking travel for all vessel employees assigned to current vessel.

This includes receiving all travel requests from employees/managers, booking travel for each via Concur Travel and sending confirmation of travel to each employee.

All travel duties and responsibilities, including budget and max $ spend, report to the corporate HR Generalist assigned to manage travel;

That person also serves as back-up when/if needed.

Manage turnover day for crew, in conjunction with HOD team, including confirming crew travel schedules;

Create turnover report;

Assign safety stations; manage berthing/cabin changes;

Cabin inspection notifications;

Crew ID cards;

Crew cabin keys.

MXP: entry of new hires into MXP, as well as maintain crew turnover reports and responsibilities;

Enter onboard training information; .

Enter disciplinary actions and other notes as necessary;

Update TWIC information;

Enter/edit rotations;

Run reports as necessary.

Manage and maintain harmony in general crew areas;

Check in on employees regularly and keep presence/watch in crew common areas;

Address any non-compliance issues among crew as necessary.

Crew cabin inspections, which includes oversight and coordination of follow-through, general assessment and upkeep of crew living standards;

Also tracking of and follow-up regarding maintenance request submissions.

Maintain organization of crew uniforms and order/complete requisitions as needed.

Assist employees with registration in Paycor to view paycheck statements, benefits enrollment, address changes, etc.;

Assist heavily with annual benefits open enrollment, generally held during the month of June.

Maintain positive communications with crew including maintenance of employee bulletin boards and/or messaging systems;

Work in conjunction with Corporate HR regarding required legal postings and benefits postings.

Serve as witness, as requested, during disciplinary action meetings onboard;

Provide coaching assistance and assistance with proper documentation in accordance with company’s disciplinary action program.

Coordinate crew events (birthday, holiday, special events) in conjunction with the Master and Hotel Manager, as approved and as applicable.

Coordinate and maintain crew rentals, i.e. DVDs, bicycles, laptops if applicable, vacuum cleaners.

Order/requisition supplies per policy.

Actively promotes the safety of all crew and encourages and directs others to engage in positive safety behaviors.

Coordinate and maintain STEAM Service System and all tasks therein to keep the program alive, including training of employees.

Ensure behavior and performance supports the company’s Mission.

Follow company values in responding to others in work situations.

Meet “standards for service” behaviors.

Use recovery steps to respond to others who are dissatisfied.

Make hospitality standards an important part of day-to-day duties.

Be a STEAM System example for others.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Education:

HS Diploma or Equivalent Required

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent of experience, preferred in Human Resources

Professional Certification(s) or License:
Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) – if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintain

Copy of DD214, if Veteran status

Skills & Abilities:

Advanced MS Office skills required - must be proficient w/ technology, learn systems quickly, have an extreme eye for detail and understand various HR data tracking systems

MXP skills preferred, but will train

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Proven track record of working successfully in a team environment

Highly culturally sensitive and can work well with people from all backgrounds and ethnicities, and encourages others to do the same

Must be sensitive to the priorities and difficulties faced by other departments, working WITH them to ensure that HR practices and initiatives are top of mind and results-oriented

Must model a high standard of discretion in interpersonal and professional behaviors at all times.

Experience:

2-4 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this position

Cruise industry experience preferred

Other:

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident/incident testing.

Working Conditions:

The majority of work is performed in a Marine environment in both indoor and outdoor conditions with exposure to various temperatures and weather conditions, along with a moderate to loud noise level.

The Marine operation is subject to varied wake and motion.

This position lives and works onboard a vessel, on a rotational basis for consecutive port-to-port voyages during the regular season.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand and walk on nearly a constant basis

Ability to bend, rotate and reach frequently

Ability to carry, push/pull and/or lift materials weighing upwards of 50 lbs

Ascending/descending stairs or ladders safely

Ability to manipulate/handle/grip materials required to perform job

Ability to maneuver through/in/around small and/or confined areas within the vessel

Must be able to maintain both static and dynamic standing balance to complete various duties associated with job

Must be capable of performing emergency duties as listed in the vessel’s station bill
